How is sine, cosine and tangent related to triangles? They're just curves.

I asked this to my black high school teacher, but with widening eyes and a widening smile, he said, "Ah, the relationship of mathematics."

He obviously didn't know, this question triggered him deep inside.

They are "related" to triangles because you define their values as ratios of particular sides in a right angled triangle. SOH CAH TOA. The graphs of these functions are curves.

There are literally billions of places where you can find this information. Try books.
