It's the science about everything physical there is (along with astrophysics and cosmology which are really just more specialized subdisciplines of astronomy). Hard for an intelligent person not to revere it.

The sad thing is that so far every known place in the Universe (besides most areas of the Earth's surface region) are both entirely void of life as well as utterly and completely hostile to it. But then again, it's just our own problem, not the Universe's. It couldn't care less.

Facts about space just challange my mind on a whole other level.
Reading about star remnants and space-time is like watching a perfect Sifi movie.

So how many particular places in different star systems which are confirmed to be habitable for earthly creatures are you precisely aware of? Do you know how many different, but miraculously overlapping factors contribute to the fact that the Earth's ecosystem exists? Do you know that most creatures, especially the more evolved ones, are entirely dependent on the rest of the ecosystem, and wouldn't survive on a planet without a very similar ecosystem, even if the raw physical conditions (atmosphere composition, pressure, temperature, availability of water, etc.) were theoretically permissive for life as known to us?

His point is that the solar system is the only place we have any detailed knowledge of.
For all you know, there's 5 planets with comfortable living conditions orbiting one of the Alpha Centauri stars.
