Why can this shit dissolve anything?

What were you expecting?

What are some other chemicals that have similar solvent properties

How so?

Wtf makes you think it's non-polar...

>> No.7986011

>>7985981

It's not, he's a complete fucking idiot, I mean one look at the molecule tells you it's polar.

>> No.7986024

>>7985864
It's a good h-bond acceptor and at the same time relatively non-polar.
Although I don't think it dissolves table sugar

>> No.7986026

>>7985869
Lol.

>strong bonds

Yes, covalent bonds are strong! That has nothing to do with its ability as a solvent

>non polar

The carbonyl is polarized, partially. The shift in electron density due to the differences in electronegativity does allow for some fairly strong intermolecular dipole dipole bonding and interactions with other polar and partially polar compounds. Acetone is minisicible in water for example.

the oxygen will pull electrons away from the carbon making it electrophilic in character and thus ripe for all sorts of chemistry with lustful nucleophiles and pedophiles

Because it's a meme solvent.

What are some non-meme 4chan approved solvents?

>> No.7986045

diethyl ether,

because there is no better start to a day in the lab than having a little taking a good sniff of ether :^)

acetonitrile, 1,2-dimethoxy-ethane, dimethyl-formamide, 1,4-dioxane, hexamethylphosphoramide, triethyl amine, xylenes

The meme solvents include:
>acetone
>acetic anhydride
>butanols
>t-butyl alcohol
>carbon tetrachloride
>chloroform
>dichloromethane
>ethanol
>ethylene (and diethylene) glycol
>ether
>ethyl acetate
>methanol
>methylamine
>methylene chloride
>nitromethane
>pentane
>petrol ether
>propanols
>pyrridine
>toluene
>water

Tetrahydrofuran may or may not be a meme, I'm not sure.

dimethyl sulfoxide is also a non-meme solvent

My vote is DMSO. As another anon has stated it "is meme worthy". Just a factoid DMSO is used to pass drugs (medication) into a patient through the skin. There are other uses just dropping one.
