I never realized why retards were willing to pay shit tons of cash to go to what is considered a top college. To be honest before going to this joke of a fucking university I didn't even know what people meant when they said "school 'x' is better than school 'y'".

Unfortunately now I know. The professors are fucking shit here, but I'm sure it's easier to get a degree here than most places.

In my experience going to an unknown/shit school and then transferring to a namebrand school, the professors from both were actually friendly and capable, I didn't notice any jarring incompetence at my old school. The only difference was that professors at Namebrand U gave a shit ton more about legit research (but quality of teaching still wasn't compromised, which just debunked the myth I believed that large research schools don't care about students).
At my old uni I asked a prof for a summer research project, but all he had was some of his old dissertation work from a decade or so ago. That was in physics, everything else there seemed to be in bio/medicine, even the math research.

What makes a school a shit school isn't the teachers though, and not necessarily even facilities. It's really about the students that are there. The vast majority of buttfuck-nowhere non-namebrand schools are full of people who don't care enough to go somewhere else. And don't say it's a poverty issue, because many top schools cover full need if you're poor as shit. I went to my old school with a full ride, but my current uni covers full tuition since I'm poor af so I only have to pay a couple k for housing a year. There's literally no point going for free to a bottom 1,000 school in the US when you can go for almost free at a top 15-20 school in the world.
People with actual ambition and competence want to get things done, and it's stifling at a school where the general atmosphere doesn't promote that. I know I felt it. The people in the class were constantly crying at the prof in groups to postpone an exam until a week later because they didn't give enough of a shit to study. And this was in a fucking honors class.
When I told someone in my CS class that I was transferring, he literally said, "What? Don't go, dude! Just stay, it's so easy here!"

I also initially mocked schools with actual reputations. But really, turns out going to one only helps.
