are you implying I was going to fly with it

hydrogen is so easy to make

NaOH + water in a bottle and a balloon quickly over the opening (do you need Aluminium too? It somehow seems to make more stuff happen but I can not into chemistry).

Guys, you can get Helium in large amounts from natural gas. Last I heard about it the helium shortage was for the (stable) isotope helium-3 and it was because the defense industry wasn't extracting as much decayed tritium from nukes. Besides the superfluid stuff it's useful for NMR and its nuclear chemistry.

We should use methane gas for applications like balloons. Just apply an apparatus to the anus of farm animals and harvest the gas. I'm in the process of inventing the apparatus, I just have to figure out how to not pick up the feces.

Seems like your right about it needing rare geography to extract helium from, but helium production seems to continue okay and with fracking technology new opportunities should appear for collection.

>> No.7899389

Well if
1) once Helium is out, it goes out of the atmosphere (I have no idea why though) so you can't "pick it up from the air"
but
2) Helium3 will be a byproduct of that fangled new fusion reactor they are making (source needed o my claim)
we should be fine.

If I am not mistaken, Helium escapes the atmosphere an the gravitational well of the earth with a high probability. So, once it's out, it's out. Bye bye, helium.

>> No.7899618

>>7899389
It goes out of the atmosphere because at that altitude, it has enough temperature so that it's average kinetic energy makes its velocity higher than the escape velocity of earth. And the helium byproduct of fusion probably won't be that high, so it will still be quite expensive as long as that is the only source. Applications requiring helium will probably be replaced as the price goes up.

>> No.7900947

>>7898349
Helium 4 is fine. Helium 3 (wanting to be used for research on fermionic quantum gases) is not very abundant at all.
