I never noticed, but there's no /med/ board, so I guess this goes here...?

What does /sci/ think about ASMR? I know it's a little fringe, but it seems to just be a sort of semi-voluntary piloerection. It's gotten quite a bit of attention in the past few years, especially on YouTube where most ASMR-related content basically amounts to goosebumps JOI. I'm really interested in the mechanics behind this, but it seems like it's pretty difficult to study without simply relying on self-reports.

The only decent paper I've found with mention of it is an article from a 2010 issue of Psychophysiology on objective measurement of piloerection, but I didn't really look too hard.
