Why do stars shine, /sci/?

Because they are very hot.

In fact, every object inb the universe "shines" in the sense that they give off EM radiation. But the amount of radiation and the distribution of wavelengths depends on temperature. You give off mostly infrared. The sun is a lot hotter than you, so it gives off mostly visible light and UV.
