Which academic field studies and analyzes different approaches to science and mathematics using logic? For example, explains the scientific method and why it's effective using logic.

OP said "using logic" and not "using baseless opinions".

Aristotle invented propositional logic

Lots of great mathematicians were also philosophers

Your average humanities major isn't a philosopher

>Aristotle invented propositional logic
Nope. Formal logic didn't exist before mathematicians invented it in the 19th century.

>Lots of great mathematicians were also philosophers
They were also breathers, eaters, walkers and defecators. Trivialities are not worth mentioning.

>Your average humanities major isn't a philosopher
Every child is a philosopher. Philosophy has no intellectual merit.

Aristotle described Propositional Logic and Quantified Logic where every predicate is monadic in _Prior Analytics_.

Where'd you find that pic OP?

if you are looking for a logical machine that turns the crank and tells you the scientific method is correct and exactly how to interpret results of experiments, you have neither the mind for logic, math, or science. if you are interested in the interplay between these things, you are in the realm of philosophy, which takes actual creativity and curiosity.

It's really hard not get into those useless battles, though. (When people like >>7684921 just attack some subject for the mere reason that they don't like it or consider it not worth studying.)
It's a matter of ideology, and everybody is spooked in one way or the other.

Philosophy of science. Try reading some works from the Vienna Circle, Structuralist school and Mario Bunge.

Logic is a field of math. Philosophers know nothing about it. They only repeat their baseless opinions and beliefs without ever questioning them.

>> No.7687000

>Logic is a field of math.
In order to say that, you have to define the concept 'logic'. Informal logic, hegelian logic, ontologic logic, terminist logic, etc., are not fields of math.

>Philosophers know nothing about it.
That's why some of the greatest contributions to logic were made by analytic philosophers, right?

You must be trolling or simply a fucking STEM chimp from a 3rd world country.

>> No.7687012

>>7687000
>Informal logic
This is a STEM board, so of course I was talking about formal logic, the only acceptable form of logic. Any belief-based bullshit, like the ones you mentioned, does not deserve to be called "logic".

>were made by analytic philosophers
The so called "analytic philosophers" are a cringeworthy farce and made no serious contribution to anything at all. They merely fling shit at each other and at scientists.

>a fucking STEM chimp from a 3rd world country.
I'm a femanon with a STEM degree from a 1st world country. I also have a >150 IQ and an extremely broad education. Come at me, shitposter.

>formal logic is the only acceptable form of logic
That claim doesn't have any epistemological basis. Ever heard about Carnap's Principle of Tolerance?

>analytic philosophers made no contribs xd
That's false. Lewis and Kripke made crucial contributions to modern modal logic.

>150 IQ with extremely broad education
I'll give you this one. It's very impressive to see a somalian who studied Copi's "Introduction to logic".

Have a good day, Tyrone~

All of my nope.

Worst thread I do not currently have hidden award goes to this one. For the next two seconds.
