We're doing good, you're just ignorant about modern science. The field is bigger and more specialized, so a revolution in one subfield takes more time to trasmit over other subfields. And the media are not equipped for or not willing to report on these changes, so we only get an approximative headline every once in a while.

We may not have a dozen revolutionary geniuses, but we have thousand of intelligent and driven scientists plus a few dozen prodigys in most fields.

Look closely at the progress we're making in biology or data science, in geometry and abstract algebra or in material science. Theoritical physics may not be the civilization-changing stuff it used to be mainly because we're lacking the experimental chops to test the theories, as we're getting to smaller and smaller scales. But we still get nice things done even in that field.
