How do these scanners work?

My understanding of X-ray photography is that you place an object to be scanned between an x-ray source and an X-ray sensitive photographic (?) plate.

Do they cruise round the city in a scanner convoy? One vehicle emitting X-rays, the other strategically placed on the other side of the unwitting subject somehow carrying a gigantic X-ray sensor?

>> No.7605302

>>7605284
Those plates are only used for quick exposure films so that your xray can be documented on film and doctors can see it under different lighting conditions. They don't use machines because they write the data to pixels which limit the resolution. Films don't really have any resolution.

These mobile police scanners work like ultrasounds, which work like sonars. They emit waves at a certain frequencey and their scanner reads the waves that echo back. The xrays used in pregnancies use a very low intensity because it only needs to penetrate a slice of meat. The ones that has to go through concrete or metal on the other hand are very likely to fuck you up.

>> No.7605340

>>7605302
And the tools they use aren't documented on video, I presume?

I thought about using wifi or other types of signals to look through walls. You know the scanner used in Alien? Just something crude that would detect motion would be fun to have. Check if your neighbor is home or not ...

>> No.7605348

>>7605302

So essentially working on X-ray reflection. I guess the intensity and energy of reflected rays give you an idea as to the composition of the object doing the reflection. Sounds legit. Thanks anon.

>They don't use machines because they write the data to pixels which limit the resolution.

Modern xrays use digital sensors.

> Films don't really have any resolution.
They have a grain size and the resolution is also determined by the quality of light and optics in general.

>A 36 mm x 24 mm frame of ISO 100-speed film was initially estimated to contain the equivalent of 20 million pixels,[6] although this estimate was later revised to between 4 and 16 million pixels depending on the type of film used.[7]

You can triangulate the position of any device with wifi turned on and cross reference its mac adress to identify the owner of it.

All this with off the shelf hardware, which means that a small private organisation could create a tracking system that covers a small city with checkpoints that register the populations movements for just a few thousand dollars.

With the budget and hardware access of the NSA instead? Well I'm pretty certain that there's a system that contains almost-realtime position and history of any cell phone.

And given the existence of stingray devices you can either deploy at a moments notice one to tap the data or one is already close enough to just access the data with a single click.

>> No.7605433

>>7605398
I know you can triangulate the position of senders. I've wanted to get equipment to see where amateur radio signals come from and such. This time though I was talking about locating anything without a sender that moves nearby.

What do you mean by cross referencing the mac address?

Monitoring cell phones is easy, yeah. It's being done all the time. You can request saved data from your operator, I did once, and they sent me a bunch of paper showing every phone call, text, which cell tower was being used and so forth, there are a lot of them and they will tell you where you are approximately just by that alone. Some carriers may track you more accurately and store the information.

>> No.7605460

>>7605433
>What do you mean by cross referencing the mac address?

If you triangulate just a wifi signal you can't differentiate who just got up from the TV sofa to go to the bathroom, one of the signals just moved and it could be a guest, or a permanent inhabitant of the apartment.

A MAC adress on the other hand is device specific over the long term, so you'd know the mac adress that spends the most time in the apartment is living there those that are new are guests. And if you see the mac adres leaves and go out in person to check who it is you'll know the device belongs to said person and can then use that in the future to correlate it with him/her, or someone carrying his device.

>A medium format film image can record an equivalent potential of approximately 400 megapixels,[8] while large format films can record considerably larger (4 × 5 inch) which equates to around 800 megapixels on the largest common film format, 8 × 10 inches
