The problem with doing applications online is that you are competing against a shitload of other people, so unless your resume is good (which it probably isn't) you have pretty much no chance of landing a job using this method. Calling companies and asking if they would be willing to take an intern is a good way to gain experience and build your resume, also if you do a good job as an intern the company might hire you (this is what happened to the only one of my geology-major friends who got a job right after college).

It's mostly women that get them. Women get something like 60% of college degrees in the US, but men are still getting more STEM degrees, especially the legit ones like engineering. So the soft majors are probably like 70/30 women. And the complete bullshit majors like Women's Studies are almost entirely women.
So the question is "why do women get worthless degrees?" It's because they can. They don't need a job. Despite their bitching about equality, most women still want the man to be the breadwinner. She'd rather work an easy job in an easy field and marry a guy who works his ass off.

you have to remember most people grew up with adults constantly telling them they need a degree to get a job.
I was pretty much brainwashed to believe I would never be happy unless I went to uni.

b) Because they have to study something.

Guys, I am two years into an Economics degree. I have only taken the Intro and Intermediate Econ courses, I can still turn back.

Do I turn back? Or did I pick a decent degree? I'm also only about 9k in debt and WILL NOT have to take out a penny more in loans (24 now so I can be classified as independent).

I'm gonna tell you guys right now; I hate my school. I want out so fucking bad... but I like Econ, and I like in-state tuition.

Thoughts on Economics?

Look, have to accept before you even start that you will be happy in your field even if you are a janitor in their offices. To me it's about learning what I don't fall out of love with and being around people that are immersed in that subject. I don't give a shit if I live a paupers life then. It wonmt last forever because I know My drive and attention are too astute to be competed with by the majority who come into the field meaning I will find a place to fit.
