Someone asked you to decide the base your country will change to, what base would you decide?

For me its base 2, its divisible by all numbers between itself and 0 including itself

base 10

This doesn't make it a good number. Bigger numbers take more space and 2 is an unintuitive way of counting for humans.

Base 10 is good. Base 12 is good. Arguably Base 6, 8 and 16.

Personally I'd keep base 10 because historically it has been the most promising, a lot of maths is available for it and my country can compete and cooperate with other countries on an international scale.

Base 12.
Has 6 divisors (1,2,3,4,6 and 12), which is 2 more than base 10. You can also count to twelve on your phalanges (one hand, excluding thumb) so it'd be easy to teach to children.

12.

Cleanly divisible in multiple cases, resolves the whole .999 repeating=1.000 nonsese.

Base 11 because we have 10 fingers at hand

base 10, don't fix what isn't broken when we've clearly got space travel down pat with b10

It is broken. That's why it is better changed.

It would just become 0.BBB repeating=1.000, how is that any better?

I am pretty sure op didnt allowed people to use base 10

okay outline to me how we're crippled by base 10 because as it stands right now i'm posting on a computer powered by a nuclear reactor in town that requires QUITE a bit of math to build, all done in base 10

>all done in base 10
Actually, most of it is made in base 2. The only calculations made in base 10 are the ones who were made by a human operator by hand and they are the large minority (most of the number crunching is made by computers or at least calculators).

But every base is base 10. :^)

the slide rules used to make calculations for the moon landing were in base 10.

also don't try and be a smartass, those calculators are doing base 10 math in a base 2 numerical language

>> No.7393960

Yeah, and just imagine how much more quickly we could have landed on the moon if we had done everything in base 2.

And the computers are using finite representations of reals to do calculations with real numbers, yet I don't see anyone calling for the dropping the reals for the rationals.

Building a point just because computers use it is meaningless, because the way computers do things for us is meaningless.

Base 36

I'm tired of all the other letters of the alphabet not getting a turn.

The other poster was talking about a nuclear reactor in his town though.
Maybe all calculations for designing and building that reactor were made with slide rules and you're right, but your example has nothing to do with my post.

>>7393954
You're right about this, I forgot that most handheld calculators use BCD internally. My wrong.

Are you that new on /sci/? Pic related.
>Building a point just because computers use it is meaningless, because the way computers do things for us is meaningless.
I never said that base 2 is the best base, I was just replying to the other poster who said that ALL math used to build the nuclear reactor in his town was done in base 10.

base 10 goes from 0 to 9 and not from 1 to 10, so we still need the 10 to represent your last finger (since number 0 cant represent the first one)
