My friend is making liquor on medical spitrytuose that contains 0,5% chlorhexidine. He and his friends drinks it on parties and often propose it to me, but im affraid of sideeffects. He told that he made puryfing process with EDTA, olso he linked me this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19026886
>The combination of chlorhexidine and EDTA produces a white precipitate. The aim of this study was to determine if the precipitate involves the chemical degradation of chlorhexidine. The precipitate was produced and redissolved in a known amount of dilute trifluoroacetic acid. The amount of chlorhexidine and EDTA present in the dissolved precipitate was determined by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detection at 288 nm. More than 90% of the precipitate's mass was found to be EDTA or chlorhexidine. The remainder is suspected to be water, gluconate, and sodium. Parachloroaniline, a potentially carcinogenic decomposition product of chlorhexidine, was not detected in the precipitate (the limit of detection was 1%). The molar ratio of chlorhexidine to EDTA in the precipitate was about 1.6 to 1. Based on the results, chlorhexidine forms a salt with EDTA rather than undergoing a chemical reaction.
what do you think /sci/nones, ist that safe?

not sure if alcoholic solution of chlorexidine will react in the same way with EDTA as in pure form

olso i think that drinking any alcohol often is a bad idea

... is fucking mouthwash, why??

It's almost certainly harmless. The better question is why would you WANT to drink it? It's not that hard to get tasty alcohol, even if you are underage.

>underage
I'm a student and my friend is on first year of stomatology
I guess that only reason is that, the medical spiritouse from medical store is 5x cheaper than branded alcohol with taxes
>It's almost certainly harmless
I readed that chlorexidine can kill intestinal flora, but this liquor is made from spiritouse that was mixed with EDTA and filtred
I'm still not sure if that process is fully effective and safety

You should ask on some chemistry forum, /sci/ is only for asking for help in homework

why the fuck would you want to drink an antibiotic and a chelating agent

it won't fuck you up, i'ts just pointless

>> No.7365314

>>7365228
chelating agent chelates chlorhexidine and then is filtred, so you drink only pure alcohol

In theory.

>>7365314
Chelating agents don't work that way, they only chelate metal ions.

It literally said in the abstract, it forms a salt. I don't know what the solubility product of that salt is but it might not be enough to ensure quantitative precipitation of chlorhexidine.

don't know, maybe if you would add 5g of edta to 1L of this medical alcohol and then filter out powder, put it on the scale, so if that would give you 5g + ~5g(weight of chlorexdidine in 1L of medical spiritouse) then it is propably good way, but still we cannot be sure if edta + alcoholic solution of chlorhexidine makes some dangerous thing like chloraline

>> No.7373964

I don't know if is that safe or not, but I would never drink it
