How much time and money would it take to build an amateur spaceship that could make it to Ceres? Me and a few of my buds really want to see what is going on over there and we are tired of waiting for NASA to tell us. I am willing to take a few of you guys with me as long as you can help us build and launch the ship.

Sounds good to me OP, I'm pretty good at building stuff with legos, it always comes out looking mostly like the picture so I can help you build it.

I asked my mom and she said she'd give me about $20 I can donate to this project as long as we get back before bed time

What computer program is that, it looks like it will be very helpful when it comes to accomplishing my goal. It is also very cheap, at least cheap when it comes to building a spaceship. Can you also send me the blueprints for that ship?

Kerbal Space Program. You should learn to design your own ship so you understand how to fly it. This design is crap and requires mechjeb to get into orbit because of the upper stage expendable fuel tanks.

Who is mechjeb and how can I get him to help me with my goal?

Everything the OP wants can probably be bought off the shelf from the Russians. They've been more or less Moon mission ready for several decades and going to Ceres is as simple as not stopping at the Moon. A Zond with a lander from their museum, a Soyuz for the return trip, a couple of Progress modules loaded with supplies and four Protons to launch it all would do the trick. I'd also take along a cosmonaut if you're no pilot. Besides I think they'd be happy to sell you what you needed if the honor of first steps and all went to the commies.

Wouldn't 4 of the FL-T800 fuel tanks mounted radially be more aero dynamic? Also, put nose cones on you lower stage boosters.
