I love the Newton–Raphson method, before I knew of it I was a pleb that would take more than 3 minutes to solve a cubic and I'd never dream of solving shit like x=cos x. Newton-Raphson was probably the exact point where the sheer power of calculus hit me, and I feel truly blessed for it.

When did it hit you /sci/? When did you first see the amazing power of calculus?

Yeah, I took the gif off Wikipedia, though I did mention on the talk page that it isn't English, I'm not too sure if it's actually German, Funktion definitely looks it, but Tangente rubs me as Italian.

Never.

Calculus is boring shit. I much prefer to deal with things that can't be visualized in graphs.

Fuck me, I thought I was the only one - I enjoy Newton's method more than I do porn. I wish I could fix that.

Why anon :(

Good luck using Newton's method for a function that isn't easily differentiable

Yeah, I fear that, once my exams are done I'm gonna look into it for complex numbers and then any weird shit, but sadly my course doesn't cover it to any higher of a level.

Actually, is there any diagnostic test to see how good my differentiation is? It'd be interesting to know exactly what I can and can't do.

Graphs are fine as long as they're a nice set, and not drawn.

Can confirm. It's in my Bible.

I love the visual here. It makes it entirely clear on what the fuck you are actually doing with this method.

Funktion and Tangente is both german

Odd, I've never seen the method taught without being backed up by the theory.

He says that I've got a real numbered vision, and that my lenses won't need to tell the the quotient rule but he says that I can't handle complex problems, what do?
