Do pure mathematicians actually use anything they learn in a typical differential equations course?

I don't see how any of these methods of solving DEs is applicable to higher mathematics.

well i'm surprised. surely you can see how ODE's can occur in geometry? or in anything involving a vector field? obviously we use the "field" abstraction to represent various potentials in physics, but that's a consequence of the pure mathematical concept of a field. in any case they have lots of applications in topology, namely ricci flow.
