Could someone please explain different numeral systems to me? I'm afraid I'm retarded and I just don't get it. I'm talking about bases. For instance, I know that we use a Base 10 system, meaning we go up to the number ten and then start over again. Kinda

My friend was trying to explain to me an "octal numeral system" or something that he said was Base 8. He said that means a Base 8 system has no 8 or 9, and that 8 would be the equivalent to 10 because that's when you start over but I don't understand that at all.

Would that mean you go "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,80,81,82..."?

Please help. I'm dumb

Head over to the YouTubes and type in: explain octal
Then try: explain hexadecimal.
You'll get it :)
