Why does everyone here hate philosophy? It's a legitimate scientific field. Also as someone that is pursuing a philosophy degree from my local Community College, I feel personally insulted.

/sci/ is so autistic that people are going to respond to this b8 at face value, even after I post this.

You think everything is bait don't you. What if I told you people actually do get degrees in philosophy. Not everyone is cut out "Lol no job math major" or "Lol no life electrical engineering majors". Grow up.

We don't. We just hate pretentious philosophy undergraduates who think they are enlightened because they memorized what others did or said.

Is that not enlightenment though? What do you think enlightenment is? As the great Sang Tzu Sun once said, "Enlightenment is in the eye's of the beholder".

Why don't you invest it and pass it on to the next generation.

Not having kids. If personal robots get invented with life like personalities (AI's) then I might consider one, but procreating with a whore woman and bringing a child into this god forsaken land is a sin.

I like Philosophy. If it were going to be a financially secure venture, I would spend tons of time on it. But time is short, and spending hours trying to decipher Kierkegaard's metaphors seems trivial when I can just look up a summary on Wikipedia.

Indeed, philosophy can be very scientific. My favorite philosopher (pic related) employed empirical observation and rational thought in his rigorous analysis of modern dating culture.

People here hate philosophy because it's a science board--even though both can be arguably important, people who like to think about philosophical problems are usually just different from people who like physics problems. It's the same reason why most philosophers don't have very good abilities in physics (the carryover to math, esp foundations areas are better, but philosophers usually don't have good intuition for deep mathematics). People in one area usually like thinking about those types of problems, and even if they recognize the importance of another field they don't like thinking about it themselves (they leave it to the philosophers). Philosophy has very very little intersection with math and physics aside from foundations and metaphysical questions (which aren't questions >99% scientists care to think about). So when people come here making a new philosophy thread every few days, people get mad, especially because they usually involve people trying to discuss philosophy -- bout as fruitful as going on a philosophy board and trying to discuss with people the importance of quantum physics in philosophy (with no one talking in technical terms).

kek

No but seriously, science is what describes the world around us, like physics describes motion of particles, biology on how animals' insides work, chemistry on how molecules interact, etc
Philosophy is thinking about WHY these things are what they are, but they don't describe them the way hard scientific fields do.

So, philosophy is good and it makes you think in new ways, but it's not science.

you post makes no sense to me.

philosophy is where every other science begins form, it's what every theory is, just philosophy corresponding to explain physical evidence.

every science is just building to the theory of everything which is the philosophy of everything.

Of course I follow philosophical thought not taught in many colleges, such as the freemasons and hermes trigustus, and these forbidden dark arts were the orginators of many of the worlds sciences.

As above, so below, speaks volumes on everything order related and matrix based

nothing is true everything is permitted, speaks volumes on everything chaos related and that relates to the subjective viewing of reality and some quantum mechanics.

Everything in the universe is order and chaos

so you see, real philosophy is the logical model we apply to our collective subjective experience of reality

philosophy is our "theory of everything".

Philosophy failed to account for the diversity of life even though evolution and natural selection as Darwin described had been in plain sight.

The best philosophy has done:

"I doubt, therefore, I am a doubter."

you must more live philosophically, than to learn philosophy.
-to live the good life
-to create new concepts

you will question thoughts, speeches and actions of every body, yours included.

>what are the difficulties/problems ?
>why are they difficulties/problems ?
>what are the solutions ?
>why are they solutions ?
>What are the necessities ?
>what are the sufficiences ?
>what are the causes ?
> what are the effects ?
>what are the means ?
>what are the goals ?

And it appears that, without even discussing the solutions nor the logics and motivations of the causes and the effects, most of the problems that people discuss IRL or in their books, are vapid, incomplete, foreign.

To learn philosophy is to learn why such or such philosopher created such and such concepts against such and such problems.

1)technology(science),philosophy,politics should be on the same level in order to have the society that the majority of the citizens dream of.and capitalism won't survive because of the big height difference between technology and philosophy ,just as the ancient greek democracy didn't because of the opposite height difference
2)philosophy is the connection link not only between the cosmos of the five senses and the real world(don't react to the phrase real world, you will be predictable faggots) ,but also between the citizen and democracy ,which seeks of the society not only to support elections and same shit, but mainly a particular way of life(a life philosophy)
3)people nowadays hate philosophy because we live in the times of a materialistic world that wants to describe everything as practical and "on earth" as possible ,in the name of productivity and not effectiveness
4)there are different kinds of philosophy.you are describing metaphysics

Philosophy has its place in science. It serves us when we have little else to go on. What is M Theory but philosophy? We have to use philosophy to imagine things we cannot perceive with our current technology and understanding.
