>This is exactly what i wish to study

What to study to branch off into nuclear eng?

>> No.7289328

nuclear physics, pure physics.
hell I'm studying astrophysics and I'm branching off into solid-state physics at the moment. I'd love to get into nuclear or quantum physics at some point.
nothing limits you ever just do you thing baby.

Chemical Engineering or Mechanical then do Nuclear in grad-school.

I you have an interest in nuclear physics, then you should do physics then do nuclear research in physics grad-school.

However, if you want to work on nuclear in the industry (powerplants, hospital cyclotrons etc.) then you NEED an ABET accredited engineering UNDERGRAD degree (graduate degree is less important, it's mostly for determining your research career path, it holds no legal signature power).

By ABET I mean Washington Accord accredited, internationally speaking.

materials science and irradiation induced damage of materials, fusion plasma phys, thermalhydraulics, hell i had a project last semester where we put together an adaptive cruise control system with collision avoidance with fuzzy logic. nuke is the penultimate major

Truth. Chem is the ultimate btw.

>thinking people go into nuclear fields for the money

Literally everyone I've met involved with nuclear engineering or nuclear physics (all my professors and those in industry) are absolutely in love with their field of study, and would do it happily for a fraction of the pay.

If you want to go into engineering and by that I mean engineering then listen to these folks here. Engineering in a bunch of countries requires a BSc degree in the specific field. That qualifies you to be an engineer legally and fulfill an engineer's position. Other exams might be required. If you don't really want to be in the industry or at least not in an engineering position then you could check whether your physics ed. has a nuclear physics specialization. Applied physics course might also cover it to some degree depending on the place.
