Can we define intelligence for humans?

I personally think intelligence is memory, memory as defined in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory

Long term memory?

Intelligence comes from Latin intelligere (to understand).

How is memory involved in this?

If you prefer, it comes from French intelligence which means intelligence.

Intelligence is never related to memory, they are two separated things. Intelligence is separating events and analyze it logically and philosophically... I'm too sleepy but I can write you 500 words essay about why you said is nonsense

Memory is related to intelligence but is not its definition. There are multiple systems of memory - short- and long-term, procedural, semantic, and episodic. Long-term memory is important for factual knowledge. Working memory is involved in making sense of multiple factors simultaneously. And so on.

In answer to your question: Intelligence is defined by the behavior of understanding as demonstrated by problem-solving.

Whaaaa? If it was related we will never move forward with science, because every thing is new for humans, since we existed. We are still discovering nature and new things

Intelligence is the ability to choose between multiple options, such that your choice is the most efficient at accomplishing a goal. It isn't memory, it's discrimination, but it is dependent on memory.

Memory begets awareness of self, and temporal awareness. This allows for a system to create goals. Intelligence is what we call choosing between options to obtain said goals.

>Implying the most intelligent option is the most efficient option

"Efficient" hosts a range of interests that may or may not have anything to do with picking the most intelligent thing.

>> No.7281209

There are many kinds of intelligence, and the only ones that are important are the ones I excel at. By defining intelligence in this way I can appear intellectually superior to my peers while ignoring my deficiencies.

>> No.7281247

intelligence is the ability men and to some extent animals and machines (AIs) have to make decisions in order to solve problems. Has little to do with memory and a lot to do with learning.

>>7279245
I think this is the best one tbh

>> No.7281369

>>7279245
Yeah that's pretty good. I'd adopt possibly an even broader definition something like:

>The ability to perceive and respond advantageously to changes in one's environment

A lot of neuro/psychfags woud not appreciate this definition because it expands intelligence to cover pretty much anything alive and some things that aren't, like plants and amoebas, hell, even roombas. It might even cover things that aren't 'things' per se, like a school of fish or traffic dynamics in a big city. I think all those things, if not intelligent per se, at the very least *exhibit intelligent behavior*.
