In USA/Canada, it's extremely common for the athletic programs at high schools or lower-tier colleges to have logos that are extremely similar, if not identical to, much more famous sports logos. It's a way to emulate and pay homage to well-known teams-although there are licensing issues oftentimes, I'm sure.

Pic related is an example of this. There's a university in Georgia with this logo, which is almost the same thing as the American Football NFL team Green Bay Packer's logo, just with a different color scheme.

Finally, when people think of the "brand" of a North American university, even in a strictly academic sense, the logo comes to mind for most people. This is even true for certain top-tier schools like Duke, oh somebody namedrop some I don't know colleges well.

Not as bad as it seems. I didn't do any research, so I was able to finish it in just 1 year and enter the work force sooner. Half a year of salary is a pretty huge chunk of tuition. Kind of. A lot of people who deserve it get fucked by the influx of individuals that take private school to boost up their marks to the top 90s. However, from my experience, a good AIF (a written report of approximately 300 letters about why you deserve to be part of x engineering) + low 90s is a 80% chance of getting accepted into x engineering. Software is a different situation as they only accept students that have entered and shown results in software competitions. Really heavy stuff at younger than 18.

Technica impendi nationi. I know there are some posters in here from the Politécnica.

It has many flaws, but plenty of spirit. Its major characteristic is that only about 20-30% of students pass each course, for some courses it goes down to 5% (the minimum by law). Every graduate is hard as nails after studying here, It's a bad practice but it makes everyone push it again and again till they survive.

Most graduates know a lot of stuff by the end, since it almost never takes 4 years to get trough.

Nah man. Come over, it's a nice uni and most professors are really good. It depends a lot in the faculty, some are mediocre and others are top in Europe. What are you studying?

>>7255729
That 5% only applies to the worst courses. Mostly just shitty professors and bad material to study, maintaining the exam standards. I agree that the 20-30% is fucking awful, but believe me, it's just a way of not letting you pass only knowing half the course. To get by you need to know most of the material or be really lucky.

Don't think that's so shite, if you study everyday, go to class and go fresh to the exam you'll do just fine.

I don't want you guys to think it's a shitty uni, it's not the best by any means, but you won't even notice that happens after a while. Some faculties are top tier in Europe.

>And university name is not all that matters, you should definitely care more about your degree than the university you get it from. Don't be too fixated on MIT.

True for undergrad. You can get into a top school for grad school coming from a mediocre school. I did it.

No, it's definitely not. The grad school and programs are top notch, but it doesnt have the prestige because admissions to Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford are FAR more competitive, so the kids there are 1000x smarter than the average kid at Berkeley (the smartest kids at all these schools are comparable in intelligence). Anyone who doesn't think that is either too retarded to differentiate the level of intelligence separating the average top tier uni students, or just hasn't talked to enough undergrads from all of the universities.

What does /sci/ think of University of Georgia.

It's not good, but it's also not shit in my opinion.

This, I know plenty of people from no name universities now at top 5 phD programs (Pure math). It's obviously not going to be the majority of people in the programs, but it's a noticeable number every year.

It's not shit. The math there is decent, such that if you work hard and do really well, you could still go places.

How the FUCK is a bunch of high school students and undegrads talking about their schools a /sci/ discussion? mods should close this. Caring about university is the most pleb tier shit I've ever heard of. Just work as hard as you can to learn well and do good research. NO one will care about your uni after that.

What does /sci/ think of CU-Boulder?
Tuition is about ~14k, dorms and food about ~14k a year, but I am gonna try and find cheaper housing, and apparently my tuition will be paid for this year from grants. Also have about 7k saved up.

Probably gonna go for either aerospace or mechanical and go to grad school for aerospace. Would it be worth it? Would I be happy?

Missed the deadline for a lot of other schools here, sadly so I would be stuck at my current uni for another semester at least.

I've seen Simons and Donaldson though, and that was really fucking cool.

Me too, because I had research experience, conference presentations, and good letters. Graduate programs don't give a dick about where you do your undergraduate work as long as you show promise as a researcher and are a good fit for their department. Name is nothing, though fancy universities are likely going to have more money and opportunities for you to potentially take advantage of.

Yes my SAT super-scored is above that. Subject tests were >670,

Let's say my SAT to GPA ratio is insanely inflated meaning I literally didn't take AP's this year implying all honors with some B's and 1 C.

Well I didn't study CS, but plenty of my friends did. The workload will be tough, but there's no doubt it is worth it. I know there are a few electives (optional classes) that are considered extremely time-consuming. One of them is Operating Systems, but I don't remember the others.
There is also a freshman weed-out class referred to only as "251" because the full name is too long. If you can make it past that, you'll be fine.

He gave a talk last year, I think. I went to it, as it was during some conference. You should watch out for those. Donaldson, Sullivan, Lawson give talks quite often. There's going to be a workshop there on supermoduli starting 5/18 that I'll be at (would be too advanced for random people to even sit in without getting really bored). Deligne and Witten will be there, giving lectures every day.
