I live in the North East by my parents also have a house about an hour from Golden so it's not too far either way. I'll be out to visit the school in a month.
At that level all the schools seem to have comparable coursework but the larger schools seem to have the tradeoff of better networking but hit and miss teachers.

In USA/Canada, it's extremely common for the athletic programs at high schools or lower-tier colleges to have logos that are extremely similar, if not identical to, much more famous sports logos. It's a way to emulate and pay homage to well-known teams-although there are licensing issues oftentimes, I'm sure.

Pic related is an example of this. There's a university in Georgia with this logo, which is almost the same thing as the American Football NFL team Green Bay Packer's logo, just with a different color scheme.

Finally, when people think of the "brand" of a North American university, even in a strictly academic sense, the logo comes to mind for most people. This is even true for certain top-tier schools like Duke, oh somebody namedrop some I don't know colleges well.

I already got it and I paid.
Not as bad as it seems. I didn't do any research, so I was able to finish it in just 1 year and enter the work force sooner. Half a year of salary is a pretty huge chunk of tuition. I got into Berkeley with a fellowship offer that would cover tuition if I did research (which would make me take 1.5+ years to graduate), but I turned it down because the program at Stanford was more aligned with my interests.

Kind of. A lot of people who deserve it get fucked by the influx of individuals that take private school to boost up their marks to the top 90s. However, from my experience, a good AIF (a written report of approximately 300 letters about why you deserve to be part of x engineering) + low 90s is a 80% chance of getting accepted into x engineering. Software is a different situation as they only accept students that have entered and shown results in software competitions. Really heavy stuff at younger than 18.

It has many flaws, but plenty of spirit. Its major characteristic is that only about 20-30% of students pass each course, for some courses it goes down to 5% (the minimum by law). Every graduate is hard as nails after studying here, It's a bad practice but it makes everyone push it again and again till they survive.

Most graduates know a lot of stuff by the end, since it almost never takes 4 years to get trough.

That 5% only applies to the worst courses. Mostly just shitty professors and bad material to study, maintaining the exam standards. I agree that the 20-30% is fucking awful, but believe me, it's just a way of not letting you pass only knowing half the course. To get by you need to know most of the material or be really lucky.

Don't think that's so shite, if you study everyday, go to class and go fresh to the exam you'll do just fine.

Forgot to mention that I don't agree with such practice. Normally those 20-30% are the early courses and after that the rate goes up to 40% more or less. I don't want to say it's something I like, but it forces you to know absolutely everything there is in a course to get through it.

Word to the wise, from what I understand MIT can be closer to hell than paradise. And university name is not all that matters, you should definitely care more about your degree than the university you get it from. Don't be too fixated on MIT.

The grad school and programs are top notch, but it doesnt have the prestige because admissions to Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford are FAR more competitive, so the kids there are 1000x smarter than the average kid at Berkeley (the smartest kids at all these schools are comparable in intelligence). What does /sci/ think of CU-Boulder?
Tuition is about ~14k, dorms and food about ~14k a year, but I am gonna try and find cheaper housing, and apparently my tuition will be paid for this year from grants. Also have about 7k saved up.

Probably gonna go for either aerospace or mechanical and go to grad school for aerospace. Would it be worth it? Would I be happy?

Missed the deadline for a lot of other schools here, sadly so I would be stuck at my current uni for another semester at least.

Con respecto a lo social el impa al ser un lugar pequeño y con solo matemática es muy aburrido, así que si quieres entretención la tendras que encontrar afuera del impa (lo cual no es difícil en rio de janeiro).

Si estas aún haciendo tu licenciatura/bachillerato te recomiendo que vengas (junto con algún amigo es recomendable) un verano al impa a tomar uno de los cursos que dictan, así puedes conocer el lugar para ver si te gustaría hacer tu magister/doctorado aquí, el idioma es muy simple (puedes venir sabiendo solo español) y te dan una beca que cubre parte de los gastos de viaje, si te interesa esto busca más información en la pagina del impa o preguntame por aquí.

Well I didn't study CS, but plenty of my friends did. The workload will be tough, but there's no doubt it is worth it. I know there are a few electives (optional classes) that are considered extremely time-consuming. One of them is Operating Systems, but I don't remember the others.
There is also a freshman weed-out class referred to only as "251" because the full name is too long. If you can make it past that, you'll be fine.
