This is my face upon learning of the JWST.

It's a total waste of time. There's no point in examining the universe while spending billions of dollars doing it, when we have serious socio-economic problems in our race that should be addressed.

However, within the radius of acceptance of the obvious, if you're going to up up another telescope into space, the JWST's detection range is a better option than the Hubble. The Hubble is really the last gasp of visible astronomy. That's not where the 'action' is. The action is in longer wavelengths and in detection of dark matter. Really, visible astronomy delivers stunning pictures of the universe, but that's just bread for the Human circus. It keeps the dumbassed public ooh-ing and aah-ing while doing nothing sensible with astronomic and cosmological understanding.
