I see this guy posted a lot and I know he holds some controversial views on maths. What exactly does he believe that is so upsetting to you guys?

>> No.7129612

He believes 0.99999...=1.

he believes infinite sets are unintuitive. Even if they are.

>> No.7129614

I think he's just a constructivist, besides there are various threads about him already.

ok? why is that controversial?

meaning?

To be more specific I think he's a finitist

Never watched his lectures on the subject though.

He makes good math videos

>> No.7129641

In fact I think he makes the best mathematics videos on the internet, though these abstract algebra lectures are great: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLelIK3uylPMGzHBuR3hLMHrYfMqWWsmx5

as a physicist i feel great interest in any and every science. If I had the time, i would listen to every subject about all the sciences and engineering subjects.
However when it comes to math, oh my god, how could someone find this interesting, it blows my mind

The issue that I personally have with Wildberger is that his arguments are age-old, and were addressed long ago. He acts like what he is saying is something controversial, when in fact he is just getting hung up on something that we as a community have "agreed" to set aside so that real results can be made.

how can someone be this retarded and still be interested in /sci/?

you don't even know what his opinions are yet you're posting about his views.

idiocy of some people on here can be shocking... and I've been here for a long time.

go watch his foundational videos to see what he's about. it's a better use of your time than shitposting about topics you have no clue about.

It's interesting, because if you want to understand theories of physics, for example why the photon field and the Christoffel symbols in gravity allow for being viewed as instances of the same concept
wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartan_connection
you need to be able to understand that language

Please correct me if I'm wrong in thinking that this equality is a practical one used when truncating infinite repeating decimals to finite ones.

>> No.7131792

He rejects modern mathematics for reasons no one agrees with and is not happy with anyones reasoning.

His statements on limits are idotic.
