Then just use the half angle identity for the even power sin/cosine problems

Not OP, how do I get an actual understanding of higher level math concepts?
I'm in Calc I at the moment and it's not really that I'm unable to do algebra, but there are so many different concepts one has to pick from and essentially "know what to do".
I don't really know where to start, to put it simply. Doing something for the first time is easy, but combining it with other concepts just shuts my thinking power off instantly. I panicked the first time I saw a derivative combined with a limit, a trig function, and application of the chain rule all at once. Just can't seem to think straight.
How are you able to combat this? There has to be some kind of secret you use to keep your drive going and your passion for mathematics in check. Engineering student here by the way and I also fail to understand what real-world application I can use this for.

I'm getting the hang of it after two days of doing the problems with 4-6 hours on each day. My critical thinking skills is getting a workout, though. Having to separate and choosing the right equation to use the formula so that I can use u-substitution for the rest that is left out is where it's tedious. My critical thinking skills is getting a workout with the whole thinking of multiple pathways in my head to see which is the better choice.
