Why are you all so pretentious. From my experience, the liberal arts and humanities are just a necessary as STEM. Infact, they are more so important because STEM jobs could be replaced by robots.

kek'd hard. maybe you should learn how to spell first, humanities major.

as for replacing you, anything other than a STEM degree is a fucking waste of money & time since you will never gain employment in modern world. CS people are working overtime to replace your useless asses with algorithms and given how successful they've been so far, I'd say you'll stay unemployed forever.

college was never supposed to be a prerequisite for work, it has always been a place for higher learning for the middle and high class.

People who think college prepares individuals for work are in for a rude awakening, as it neither preps a student nor does it teach the required skillsets to perform tasks in their supposed fields.

The value of establishing culture far outweighs the value of being a common-class wage maker. The need for human calculators is at an all time low with the advancements in modern technology. Those STEM majors will eventually wake up and realize that their jobs have been taken by robots who could do their job infinitely better and infinitely cheaper.

Meanwhile those who went to college to become culturally enlightened will always be needed, as robots will never be capable of creativity nor have the capacity to understand abstract concepts like beauty.

No field is "needed" more than others.
Do what you're talented in. People who are more inclined towards STEM should follow STEM careers.
If somebody is talented enough to make a profit off their ability to write, sing, or whatever "artsy" profession then that's good for them, and they should follow that.
I'm all for maths and sciences, but a majority of the people, specifically engineers, just shit on other professions because they're insecure about that other person being better than them at something.

>> No.6978077

But if nobody goes into the STEM fields then how the fuck are we supposed to get robots, OP? Draw them up? Robots are hard.

Also, implying that we'll never design an AI capable of producing human-consumable artistic garbage. When the algorithm can produce ten thousand generic paintings a minute, human artists are obsolete and the guys who designed the algorithm will be filthy stinking rich

Well yeah. You don't need much to climb the corporate ladder.

The fact is that plenty of liberal arts majors get good jobs. Engineers get more good jobs in the field they studied, however.

That's the big difference. An anthropology major might get a fine administrative job at some sort of corporation, but it won't have anything to do with his major.

I chose Mathematics as it was just what I felt most interesting to learn more about. I've had more profound moments in mathematics than I have ever had with the arts and has made me appreciate the likes of Borges or Calvino more.

If I win the lottery (unlikely) I would like to come back and get a Liberal Arts degree so I can more well round my education.

I have a feeling the liberal arts student who feels superior about his lack of education in science is just hiding how bad he is at it.
