I want to take a break from rigorous studies and learn about the personalities behind the theorems and proofs I study.

Who are the eccentric/bizarre people in the field? Either through thoughts, personalities, behavior, actions (to or against others), etc?

The person that comes to my mind is John Conway (he hates his own work in Game of Life), but I know there are others. So who are they and why are they crazy?
