I don't know about you guys but after i truly understood the theory of relativity and its infinite scale,

...it scares the living shit out of me.

>> No.6868141

space in general and its incomprehensible scale gives me a panic attack

GM is actually a great technology. 100 years from now it may well be seen as one of the great biotech inventions, up there with vaccines and antibiotics.

It doesn't have an infinite scale.

GR hardly explains stuff beyond our solar system. It seems to approximate things pretty well but it's by no means a theory with infinite applicability.

Not that guy, but the tests for relativity don't actually prove anything. For all you know shit "slows down" at high speeds because there's some sort of information butter between fast and slow moving objects.

The problem with relativity is that it tries to say X is true because Y happens, even though Y doesn't really imply X and you have to jump through hoops to get it to work.

>> No.6869097

>>6869096

*information buffer. there's no proof that things slow down at all, just that they appear slower from our perspective which could mean a number of things less bat shit insane than lol time travel.

>> No.6869106

not really related but since no one has said anything, that model of orbit shown in your gif has been disproven. We know that the planets orbit the sun in the same plane as the sun orbits the center of the galaxy

>> No.6869107

>>6869097

another way to look at time dilation is this, too: imagine you're traveling on x, and your bro is traveling on y, both at 1 m/s then from your perspective your bro is traveling sqrt(2) m/s. now imagine one of these dimensions is time and you get the same sort of geometry bullshit (traveling in space + time isn't additive but rather like vector arithmetic so it seems like they're moving slower but they're not).

also decay rates for atomic clocks are effected by the extra kinetic energy from moving. Why do idiots who believe in relativity always forget about kinetic energy?
