/sci/, would it be possible to teach highschool / college level mathetmatics and sciences to a 8 years-old kid?

If not, why?

You could do highschool with specially bright kids
I dont think you can do college

Because brain needs to grow

At 8 I think your average high-intelligence kid could do high school Geometry, but I doubt any higher than that.

And what is the cause of this? Young brains can't grasp concepts? What makes some mathematc subjects harder than others?

>> No.6833618

you can do some high school stuff especially if you can demonstrate the concepts physically/visually.

college level i wouldn't expect it but there may be some concepts the kids could grasp.

Your brain doesn't stop growing until your 21st birthday give or take

Yes.

For some concepts, you could at least give the abridged version. Most kids could intuitively understand what a metric is or what continuity means.

Expecting them to draw conclusions from these is a different story.

i mastered real analysis when i was 8

Basic algebra, maybe some geometry but not much. As for science, nothing more complicated than Bill Nye shows will get through.

13 is roughly when kids can start to do college level math and science subjects.

The brain does not completely finish developing until about age 25. An 8 year old brain physically cannot grasp everything an adult can.

Doesn't mean we should even try until you're 25

I'd say, high school, if you have a really smart 8 year old, not a prodigy but really smart, learning algebra should be very doable, algebra is simple as fuck, learning precalc and geometry might be possible.

Problem is unless they are a legit prodigy it is gonna take them a year or two to learn that stuff so you won't be able to get much farther.

For the same reason I kinda doubt you'd be able to teach them physics or chem, even for high school chem 1 and physics 1 you need to know algebra and there is no way you're gonna get a kid knowing algebra already by the time he's 8, unless he's a legit prodigy. You could probably teach him bio 1 though because lol its just memorizing a bunch of bullshit.

Nothing college level because, again, you're not gonna be able to get the prep work in, unless he's a legit prodigy.

And even assuming he's not a prodigy, it has to be a really smart kid and more importantly he has to be genuinely interested in learning the stuff.

You sure can, if they kid is Einstein-tier smart.

I studied algebra at age 10 and geometry at age 11 fwiw
