If you were somehow able to split a brain in half and keep each side alive independently, would you have created 2 consciousnesses from one?

The brain is a little more complicated than that

I like to think that my consciousness is recreated every time I wake up.
If consciousness could be awaken after the brain is split then you could potentially have 2 separated consciousnesses. Potentially they might even be the same consciousness but separated in space rather than time which is what I think usually happens when I sleep.

you'd probably end up with 1 dead brain and the other brain would be more or less a vegetable. But if you have the technology to split brains then why not cut off 1/2 of this guys brain and stitch it to some other guys brain and see what happens :P

Yes, but the brain stem cannot be cut in half in the same manner. One of the halves would have to reconnected to another brain stem, which isn't possible.
