Who is your favorite philosopher and why?

aristotle, hands down... covered so many subjects, brilliant in all of them. came up with formal logic, a kind of math so advanced people didn't even realize it was math for 2000 years. totally underrated, I put him above plato, germans, etc

>> No.6722643

Shevchenko wasn't a philosopher

>> No.6722644

>>6722638
He wasn't brilliant in all of them. Nearly everything he wrote about science was shitty, even by the standards of the day. His ethics was shitty and designed to appeal to the higher class. He was a political guy despite working as a philosopher.

I wish Archimedes had written about ethics or metaphysics. Then they could've taken his word as absolute and not delayed their science another thousand years.

So why didn't you ask your favorite natural philosopher (or scientist as they refer to themselves now)?
Because you wanted to start a non-science thread on a science board.

"Logic has become crucially important in mathematics, linguistics, psychology, computer science, and computer engineering.

Other important applications can be found in epistemology, which aid in understanding the requisites for knowledge, sound evidence, and justified belief (important in law, economics, decision theory, and a number of other disciplines). The philosophy of science discusses the underpinnings of the scientific method and has affected the nature of scientific investigation and argumentation. As such, philosophy has fundamental implications for science as a whole."

Wow you're dumb.

Even if science is a subset of philosophy, that doesn't mean philosophy is a subset of science. Asking about philosophy in /sci/ is therefore off topic. Get the fuck out you retarded faggot.

>> No.6722791

I had the most badass philosophy prof a few years back. I remember during one class I brought up Ayn Rand (I forget in what context) and he stopped the discussion at hand and spent the rest of class (about 30 mins) talking about how she was a shitty philosopher on top of being one of the worst people to exist in history with a far-reaching influence. It was hilarious and entertaining that he was so opinionated on her.

Philosophy not being proved to be a subset of science in this one example does not prove that philosophy is not a subset of science... You pretended to use logic, then called somebody a retarded faggot. Is that science? go back to /pol/ or wherever you people keep coming from

Ayn Rand for her ethics and Aesthetics. Half of her metaphysics is disproven now, and the other half is mere semantics.

Aristotle, for that dere epistemology.
