because gambling by its very nature is designed to make you lose

in some card games you can get a slight advantage and there are people who do use this to their advantage it's called counting cards

problem is if you keep not losing you get kicked out

Poker is generally considered to be gambling, and by way of science you can vastly improve your poker skill.

>tfw I played Razz, the most boring of all poker games, online the summer before university.

>tfw made $7,000 USD that summer

Poker is now significantly harder to win at now relative to just 5-7 years ago. Too many people got good, and too many fish got weeded out of the player pool.

For roulette you can check for wheel bias scientifically. Or you can make buddies with a croupier that can hit a quartile with some regularity and bet that quartile.
For craps you can practice setting dice and controlled tumbling, you would need to build your own table and practice for thousands and thousands of hours.
Casinos will boot you if they think you're counting cards or hole-card spotting, but they let the recording of roulette numbers (to spot bias) or dice setting go, so they probably don't think those are too big a problem.

Now there is one legit advantage play, and it's video poker. However to do this you need a large starting bankroll, the knowledge of which games to play and at what denomination and to play them perfectly, plus an in depth study of player club benefits at various casinos including normal slot club points, mailers, point multiplier days, drawings, etc. etc. The amount of people that are able to do all of this with the discipline necessary to get that .2-.5% advantage is likely pretty small. Read some of Bob Dancer's column to get an idea of the autism-level needed to make a living of it.

That's because wheel bias and controlled dice have never been demonstrated to be profitable. Believing that doing those things will net you profit is just another form of gambling.

....right. That's why I said VP was the one legit advantage play.

I'm just a casual gambler, but I'm probably ahead or near even for my lifetime based on one lucky hit on my last trip, pic related. This paytable pays out around 99% of what's put in over the long run, sometimes you get lucky with variance like this, but overall it's a good one for vacationers: easy to learn, not too high variance, can get free drinks, food, rooms, etc. but pros like Bob Dancer would never play it.
