Does nothing exist? What would theoretically happen if it did? And don't come at with that yarblar Vacuum because even those are poluted with radio wave & shit

I figured Math could describe it well?

That isn't a science question. It's a philosophy question with implications for science. I think lit would be a better place to ask that.

So if there is a box with "nothing" in it, then the void contained within the walls of the box doesn't physically exist?

>> No.6674752

>>6674748
That's the problem with your question.

If you give nothing a name, will it become something? That is what I meant by vacuum is still something.
By your definition of lack of everything, it fits the description until it does, then it doesn't lack everything, it does have a name and a definition.
A name is something that can exist physically.

We call this a stupid question and thus post them in stupid question generals.

Ive thought about this. And idk why people look down upon these philosophical questions, no board is more suited then /sci for these types. We go here to see what the smart kids think of a question. No it cant be tested, but still its a question to make you think, and there is nothing wrong with asking questions even when there is no answer.

But ive thought "look around you" there's all this shit... where did it come from? how did it get here? Yes this is question that cant be answered but still it makes you think. But ive always thought what if instead of all this shit, stars, planets the solar system, galaxies and the universe and all the other shit we haven't figured out. What if there was just nothing? Not just space. But absolutely not a fucking thing in existence. Just "blank" Nada

>> No.6674766

>>6674752
>>6674763
Nothing happens by nothings boundaries, something happens by somethings boundaries.
In a physical world, nothing might be something for our analogous understanding, but physically it's just vacuum.
I can't answer your question but I can tell you than by definition nothing can't have any effect on something.

>> No.6674770

>>6674763
You would need to measure nothing in order to compare it to something. And since you cannot measure nothing, it would have to be either infinite or finite to the point it does not exist at all. Either way, you can't define something that does not exist, because if you did, it would exist as whatever you define it as

I'd imagine it's the same feeling as before you were born. Before you were created, you were nothing. Then you were created, and with your creation came everything

Of course things exist, you retard
>What would theoretically happen if it did?
Oh, you mean that kind of nothing. The kind that retards think is something. No, "nothing" doesn't exist, because to exist is to be something and NOTHING IS NOTHING.

>> No.6674783

>>6674780
Yeah, all atoms ( or at least the matter that makes them up) are as old as the universe itself. But if "nothing" doesn't exist, that would mean something MUST occupy every possible space in every direction infinitely. Because if something wasnt there to occupy the space, "nothing" would have to exist

Nothing is one of the words that does not refer to anything. It's just a concept, like God or "free will". We can talk about or debate it. But it does not exist in reality. So arguing about it's properties is like arguing over if a flying spaghetti monster tastes spicy or not.

without physical objects, "space" would be meaningless because space is the framework upon which we understand how physical objects are related to each other

All philosophical ideas aside, is there any law of physics that prevents a true "void" or nothingness from occurring? Say I took a box and managed to remove every single atom and every single bit of physical matter from the inside. What's stopping this from happening?

Vacuum in the sense of space devoid of matter is not "nothing". Even disregarding vacuum fluctuations, dark energy, neutrinos, and other quantum physics phenomena; it still consists of 3 Cartesian dimensions and abides by physical laws (EX: if you were to put matter inside it, the mater would exert a gravitational force, etc).

However, if the OP is asking if "nothing" exists in the sense of the absence of anything, including physical laws, space time, etc, then obviously it does not. Such a state is not observable, and theoretically impossible in our universe. This also begs the question that if such a state was possible, why would we say such a state "exists"? This is an oxymoron by definition. This is just arguing semantics and the thought has no meaning or value to anyone who is scientifically minded.

On which topic, has anyone else ever noticed that all knowledge is a boring tautology?

Like if you are comparing two things, and they are truly equivalent, then you've simply stated that A is itself A. Right?
