I dislike the man because his fan base (plebbit et al) is awful, and he basically exists to cater to them and their pseudo-scientific worldviews.
He was not academically prolific and is more of an unelected mouthpiece/advocate for the scientific community.
He is a very poor substitute for Sagan.
