So if a human being dies on another planet(e.g. Mars) with no bacterial life, his/her body would not decompose and remains undeformed for thousands of years.

Is this right?

the human has bacterial life within it

no, because your body is full of bacteria (several kilos worth, they outnumber your own cells 3 to 1). It is primarily these organisms that account for the majority of decomposition when you die.

If the environment is juuuust right, such that your body quickly dessicates (dries out without direct exposure to the elements), then you will be preserved. Thats because your bacteria require water to survive and reproduce.

Being emmersed in a weakly acidic solution with no oxygen will also do the trick, but your skin will turn black. See the bog-mummies of northern europe and scandinavia.

Would these bacteria survive and purify dead human body in a hostile atmosphere?

>> No.6538857

>>6538772
Depends on what you mean by "hostile". Hostile to humans is not necessarily hostile to bacteria.

Mars doesn't have oxygen so that might make a big difference.

There's plenty of anaerobic bacteria, several of them living in your gut.

Mars is pretty cold year around though so you'd probably be preserved pretty well.

You do realize that the bacteria that decompose you are the ones living in side you right now. There are actually more microbes in your body then cells lol.

However, I suppose some bacteria would die in the vacuum of space/radiation damage and would inevitably slow the decomposition process. It would not cease all together though.

Let's say you were RICH,and you funded a manned landing to the moon.

What kind of repercussions would there be if you brought a cancer victim with you to die on the moon due to his or her's choice of doing so?

No. Your body contains billions of bacteria of many different species and they'd decompose your body.

Anti suicide people tend not to be bleeding hearts, they tend to be the more strictly religious.

Dude what? Yes there are. Not only are there several international treaties that govern space, the moon, and planets, but national laws also apply to satellites and other space assets of that nation.

Depends. Completely exposed on the surface, the body would decompose for a few hours, but it would soon cool and freeze to the ambient temperature, and the atmosphere would dry out the body fairly quickly. Yeah, you'd have a mummy in short order. If the body were inside a suit, it would decompose further, but eventually any warming system inside would stop and the body would freeze, leading to pretty much the same result over a longer time span.
