I'm currently trying to conduct studies on the feeding habits of Ticks present in the Northeastern US (primarily Ixodes scapularis and Dermacentor variabilis). Finding ticks in the wild is out of the question because I'm going to be using live organisms as hosts and I, obviously, don't want to infect anything with Lyme disease.

So, the question I'm really asking is if anybody knows where one can obtain lab-grown ticks to safely conduct experiments. That is all.

What are you trying to do, OP? Using ticks as a biological weapon or something?

how can ticks possibly be a biological weapon?

Seriously I want to know because there's a military biological research island 2 miles off the shore from where Lyme disease was first discovered.

No, I'm purposely trying to obtain sterile ticks that will remain sterile for their entire lifespan.
If I wanted to fuck with people and give them diseases I'd just go pluck some off of stray dogs.

Literally googled where to buy ticks. Yahoo answer came up

"Is this for research purposes? If so, all you need to do is use Google Scholar to find out who is doing research on Ixodes scapularis (Latin name for deer ticks). They would be able to put you in contact with whatever university maintains populations of them for research.

Otherwise, they are not available anywhere as there really is not a market for them."

I'm confused why you wouldn't be able to study live caught ticks. Isn't that what lab rats are for.

Okay, fine I'll just admit it then, I had this girlfriend who broke up with me, I thought I scare her and send pictures of my junk with like a
hundred ticks attached and say it was a tropical STD and that I hadn't been with anyone since her.
