Hey /sci/. Quick question for you all - I don't know anything about this, so sources where I can learn more will be appreciated.

Assuming my room is X meters cubed, and at a temperature of Y kelvin, how many meters cubed of ice at -5 degrees will I need to reduce the temperature by 1 degree?

>> No.6490348

Correction, sorry, ice at -18 degrees centigrade

figure out how much air you have and estimate the specific heat

figure out how much heat you have to remove to lower the room one temperature

that's how much heat you have available to bring the ice up to the target room temperature

figure out how much water you need given that heat content. don't forget that ice and water have different specific heats, and don't forget the enthalpy of fusion

if you want it to be really correct, solve a system of equations so that you account for hte volume of air the block of ice is displacing
