Some mathematical solutions can't be arrived at using any one general methodology. Mathematicians sometimes have to get creative leaving students with no alternative than to simply memorize specific cases.

Stating that this is one such case makes sure that the student isn't under the mistaken impression that there is some simple way of arriving at the answer.

Biology is messy, so a lot of things can screw up your results. It also takes a long time to get results.

There are so many opportunities for fuck-ups that incorrect results are common.

Biologists need to check their work often, and they need to reproduce their results thousands of times, and often they don't.

Biology is also such that the complexity is subtle. Unless you know a lot of it, it's hard to see what's so difficult just from studying it.

When you begin to actually do experiments and research, you start to run into the difficult problems, but physicists (the top suspect for "sticking their nose into other people's business") don't often know this and assume it is easy because it looks easy.

Such physicists often make fools of themselves to audiences of biologists, when they present talks on hilariously misinformed "research" they've done.

Yes, and no. When you distort a pure tone, a sine wave, you create harmonics. Musicians also add "white noise" which really should be called "white sound" because noise, by definition, is unwanted. But that is not distortion.

The vibrato effect, on the other hand, is modulation, not distortion. I'm not sure what to call the technique Abba used, overdubbing at slightly different speed. But I liked it.

On all their songs, Abba would overdub the track with itself, varying the speed of tape playback by hand to keep them mostly in sync but different enough to create a bright reverb somewhat unlike what you would get with electronic reverb. I don't know what they did for live concerts. Maybe they used adjustable dual analog delays.

Milk production at a dairy farm was low, so the farmer wrote to the local university, asking for help from academia. A multidisciplinary team of professors was assembled, headed by a theoretical physicist, and two weeks of intensive on-site investigation took place. The scholars then returned to the university, notebooks crammed with data, where the task of writing the report was left to the team leader. Shortly thereafter the physicist returned to the farm, saying to the farmer, "I have the solution, but it'll only work for spherical cows in a vacuum".

You're thinking of the fact that the roots of polynomials of degree 5 or higher lack a general algebraic solution (such as the quadratic formula for degree 2)

In the Complex numbers C every polynomial can be broken down into a product of linear factors with coefficients in C. This is the property of being algebraically closed.

In the real numbers every polynomial that cannot be factored (into polynomials with coefficients in the real numbers) has at most degree 2. This can be seen from the conjugate root theorem.

In the rationals the degree of an irreducible polynomial can be arbitrarily large, and you can construct them using Eisenstein's criterion.

No, dark red.
And it would boil instantly (low pressure reduce temperature of boiling.) It would boil in your veins too, as well as your tears.

Also, don't hold your breath, your lungs would pop like an over-inflated balloon. It's better to expire.

That is TBBT levels of humor. In fact I'm pretty sure that punchline was actually used in one episode.

It takes 36 hours + a thesis to get an M.S. There's almost no way you could do that in 1 year.

plus a thesis? what does that mean?

36 hours of coursework plus you have to research, write and defend a thesis. Or if you do the non-thesis option it's a bunch more coursework and then you have to take some exam or something idk, I did the thesis.

/pol/ seems like a bunch of people who just discovered that they can think different things than everyone else and now feel the need to be reactionary to everything and always have a contrary, negative opinion

I like scary stories and such as much as the next guy but most of the time /x/ is a bunch of tinfoil hat material and actually discourages skepticism a lot of the time

This is not factually accurate:
He took 77 of 122 photos taken during Apollo 11.
Of all 122 photos, only 5 include him.

Biomedical engineering is an amalgamation of a bunch of engineering disciplines. But instead of hiring a biomedical engineer, who's just a jack of all trades, an employer can just hire actual electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineers to do the same job as the biomedical engineer, but better.

"Humor effect: That humorous items are more easily remembered than non-humorous ones, which might be explained by the distinctiveness of humor, the increased cognitive processing time to understand the humor, or the emotional arousal caused by the humor.[citation needed]"
