Why is it so fucking cold this winter?

I was reading this shit here:

but it doesnt exactly tell you whats going on... Is this global warming/cooling? Is this shit to stay?
I live in chicago and i haven't left my apt in 4 months...

An above average amount of ice melts occurred in the arctic this year. Because of extra ice melts in the arctic, the northern hemispheres heated more than usual. With the lack of a sufficient temperature difference between Arctic and southern regions to drive jet stream winds, the jet stream became weaker and more variable in its course, allowing cold air usually confined to the poles to reach further into the mid latitudes.
