In the 0.00000000001% chance that OP is even remotely serious

Complex numbers can be formally defined as the field R[x] of polynomials modulo the ideal generated by x^2+1.

We refer to them as "numbers" in order to make them more intuitive. The word "imaginary" is a funny historical quirk, which has somehow survived over the centuries, despite there being nothing imaginary about them at all.

I stopped caring about physics when I was introduced to the concept of dark matter. What a crock of shit. If the universe can only be understood by inventing intangible bullshit that can't exist, like some kind of physics deity, then you are fucking wrong and the physics is flawed. Same for quantum bullshit that basically say "the cat is both alive and dead". That's what the physics said transcribed to words but god forbid if i you suggest there's some underlying factor we don't know about instead of assuming the world is like fucking dice and the teacher word mark me wrong.

Physics is logical and never lies my ass. Physics is just as flawed as any other human construct.

I stopped caring about philsophy when I was introduced to the concept of consciousness. What a crock of shit. If the self can only be understood by inventing intangible bullshit that can't exist, like some kind of philosophical deity, then you are fucking wrong and the philosophy is flawed. Same for qualia bullshit that basically say "things only exist in your senses". That's what the philsophy said transcribed to words but god forbid if i you suggest there's some underlying factor we don't know about instead of assuming the world is like fucking nonexistent and the teacher word mark me wrong.

I hate the mysticism around imaginary and complex numbers.

"Ooh, this number doesn't exist because it's imaginary! And complex numbers, so complex and edgy you wouldn't understand them, wow!"

It should have a more boring name, like "vertical numbers" and complex numbers could be "rectangular numbers".

>> No.6404339

>>6404320
Not an issue. They are called complex because they consist of two simple number parts. Just because you have some associations with the term doesn't mean it doesn't totally make sense and needs to be changed.
Changing names because of feelings never leads to meaningful results.

I stopped caring about /sci/ when I was introduced to the concept of EK. What a crock of shit. If your slow board problems can only be solved by inventing a person that can't possibly exist, like some kind of shitposting deity, then you are fucking wrong and the board is flawed. In fact, there is absolutely no difference behind the reason negative numbers and imaginary numbers exist. Negative numbers are exactly as "imaginary" as imaginary numbers are.

Computer Science guy here.
We use them in Quaternions ( a vector composed of imaginary numbers ) for world transformations and rotating spacial systems about an arbitrary axis.
Quaternions are also far more dynamic, they are easier to work with and make things like the gimbal lock problem impossible.
Without imaginary numbers, we wouldn't have video games or physics simulations work nearly as fast as they do.

2 is twice the multiplicative identity. In the right systems, S(1) or S(S(0)).
Sqrt is not a particularly well behaved function.
