What is it called when you try to remember a memory by listing random words that you feel have something to do with the memory?
Is there any name for this?

Free association?

Not quite, but thanks, interesting reading as well. But: It's when you have just recently forgotten something (e.g why you walked into a room), and then start thinking about what you were thinking about at the time of still knowing about what you had forgotten, in an attempt to remember what you have forgotten.

Bump. Tried asking a friend, referred me to Presque Vu. Similar but not still it.
Basically Presque Vu, but instead of the event of it almost being on the tip of your tongue, I'm looking for a word that refers to the memory/action that caused you to remember it.

Reminder? Memory Jogger?

maybe you are refering to the examining of the thread of consciousness, or train of thought as it is called?
