I personally usually open with chinese (almost-)mini.
The third stone on high and low chinese feel too defensive to me. I put the 4th stone of mini only if my opponent is playing exceedingly light. If he's heavy I'll just continue attacking, and usually I like to touch the middle on the opposite side as fast as possible.
Then again, I'm a 17k scrub on gopanda so maybe I'm overextending.

>> No.6374874

>>6374831
KGS 13k here. I dunno. I actually don't like sticking to a single strategy. I like to be flexible, so I might play Kobayashi Mark 1 or orthodox as black and see what my opponent wants to do.

As white I just attack.

>> No.6376146

>>6374874
Right now I don't keep adopting the same strategy midgame and up, but during the opening, I find it helps get a grasp at the opponent. Since you know how different playstyles respond to your unchanging openings, it's easier to predict how they'll play later.
I think I'll come back to KGS soon. Nobody speaks English on gopanda and you can't speak to people after a game. KGS people tend to be very friendly, sometimes offering lessons or game reviews after a game.

No they're empty-headed board games and nobody is talking about math underlying and applied to them.

Math is used in business too, that doesn't make business alone a /sci/ topic.

This isn't actually math. Mathematicians do not publish papers on ridiculous business concepts. There are no big business theorems.

Anyone happen to have a list of the AI approaches for Go? Last I read there was a closed source algorithm out there that used Monte Carlo that did quite well. At the time it was only able to beat amateur players though and still couldn't beat professional Go players.

It should just be a matter of time before an AI is capable of beating the best human players.

>> No.6376503

>>6376260
Current approaches are with montecarlo tree search or ML/reinforcement learning. Best results "in the wild" are being able to maintain low dan rank on KGS, and winning when given a 9 stone handicap. I have a hard time finding papers via lame search (even on arxiv et al) because go is too common and nobody uses weiqi.

When you grow up in second world slavlands you get a taste of real world instead of bullshit:

No, you cant become president/astronaut when you grow up, maybe even a haircutter is out of your capabilities. Deal with it.
World is terribly, so so terribly unjust. There is no equality or justice on this Earth and if god really made it, he didnt have it in his plan so dont spend too much time crying over a spilled milk.
Time is the only currency you have.

Since 'comfort breeds weakness' and since every slavland had to deal with numerous bullshit through out history, men that survived all of it either toughened up or died trying.

Before you are 15 years old, you already had your first taste of real life, your first blowjob in the park, your first fight, you got mugged and roughed up for the first time and you kinda liked the effect bottle have on you and moral support it gives.

Meanwhile, others were watching their 'little girl' cartoons and played pokemon and got sheltered by their mom. They are now still virgins in their 20's and their opinions are shitting up their countries, they support immigration and welfare and think their rights and freedoms are completely practical in real world and dont know a single thing about self sacrifice and how much it is in dire need to your country. They also believe in peace and that peace can work in real life, while there are millions of muslims and what not out there.

I guess. On the other hand, until you reach single digit kyu, I don't think there is any inherent merit in adopting a predetermined strategy. The orthodox is probably the best, sinc it isn't very complicated. Just adhering to standard opening theory, knowing where the big points are, and being able to judge what is sente and what isn't will get you very far.
