Ok. So we have a problem in the oil refining industry. The problem is that we cannot accurately predict which sulphur compounds in crude oils are thermally labile. Cooperative studies between industry and universities all over the world have failed to develop a satisfactory model.

We know that naturally occurring sulphur compounds in crude oils thermally decompose as a function of time-at-temperature, but there seems to be no way from a physical chemistry standpoint to predict the decomposition of these compounds.

The result of our inability to predict this behaviour is unexpected corrosion (resulting in fire and death) and stinky finished products.

Help me and you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams.

Feynman had a fairly average AGGREGATE IQ.

His mathematical intelligence was without peer.

>Feynman was universally regarded as one of the fastest thinking and most creative theorists in his generation. Yet it has been reported-including by Feynman himself-that he only obtained a score of 125 on a school IQ test. I suspect that this test emphasized verbal, as opposed to mathematical, ability. Feynman received the highest score in the country by a large margin on the notoriously difficult Putnam mathematics competition exam, although he joined the MIT team on short notice and did not prepare for the test. He also reportedly had the highest scores on record on the math/physics graduate admission exams at Princeton. It seems quite possible to me that Feynman's cognitive abilities might have been a bit lopsided-his vocabulary and verbal ability were well above average, but perhaps not as great as his mathematical abilities. I recall looking at excerpts from a notebook Feynman kept while an undergraduate. While the notes covered very advanced topics for an undergraduate-including general relativity and the Dirac equation-it also contained a number of misspellings and grammatical errors. I doubt Feynman cared very much about such things.

Based Lynn is my pick.

IMO pop culture scientists do the most for science in modern day. They raise awarness about the awesomeness of science, the importance of science and the importance of not only funding sciences, but educating kids in science. So while Feynman, Tesla, Curie, Watson and Crick were all amazing, and made incredible and extremely important contributions to science, Nye, Tyson and Sagan have allowed those incredible discoveries to be shared with people who wouldnt be able to understand them without an intelligent person explaining it to them, and hence they become interested and, like many others, grow up to become great scientists.

>He also invented many devices, including rocket-powered flying discs, a motorized pogo stick, and a flame-throwing trumpet for a science exhibition[citation needed].

>One of his more humorous devices was a box kept on his desk called the "Ultimate Machine", based on an idea by Marvin Minsky. Otherwise featureless, the box possessed a single switch on its side. When the switch was flipped, the lid of the box opened and a mechanical hand reached out, flipped off the switch, then retracted back inside the box. Renewed interest in the "Ultimate Machine" has emerged on YouTube and Thingiverse. In addition he built a device that could solve the Rubik's Cube puzzle.[4]

Are you daft or something?
If he can make a bunch of kids interested in physics and in trying to understand the universe, he clearly has been an inspiration to someone, maybe just enough to get them to pursue that line of "work".
He might just be a catalyst, but that in itself is something important in the long run.
