Global warming does not cause regional cooling, that is poor wording. It is more related to the number and intensity of extreme weather events, which include temporary extreme cold events. At least, this is the case as long as something drastic doesn't happen, like the gulf stream stopping due to mass freshwater influx in the north Atlantic. But that is unlikely.
