So, I've got a question here.
Most AI research is done with specialized hardware designed to emulate the human brain, but as I see it, all human though is essentially a problem solving process, whether it fallls into the realm of conscious or unconscious thought. We know that the human psyche is the result of a good number of chemical reactions in the brain, and that these chemical reactions form a practical way of reacting to the external world.
So, practically, the psyche could also be simplified and imitated by programming languages that could replicate (or imitate if you'd prefer) human consciousness. Why isn't this approach more popular in AI research? Are there limitations to what a programming language can accomplish where something like neural networks and the like can succeed?
