There are no physical laws that preclude maintaining biological systems in perpetuity

The only question is: Will we figure out how to do it?

>> No.6289712

No, nothing lasts forever. We could come pretty close though, like thousands of years. We can just clone people and transfer their brains, hopefully we'll get better at caring for the brain itself by then.

No shit, smart ass. Thanks for your pointless post.

As long as Suniverse increases the S of a biological system can be maintained (your body is not a closed system, so it is not a problem)

Aren't lobsters immortal?

I don't know.

We'll be pretty close as soon as we can make bionic lungs, livers, kidneys, hearts, eyes, etc.

Their DNA doesn't frey like other living creatures so their bodies don't age. They just keep getting bigger

I'd be more worried about the brain deteriorating. I'm going to be upset if I die when shit starts to get interesting technology wise

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Figure out how to artificially regulate cell replication without causing cancer and you're a winner.

Why can't we just give people extra dosages of telomerase so their telomeres don't degrade?

-no-

You, me and everyone is this thread is going to die. Life has a limit get used to it, son.

If you're old, and you replace your old blood with that of someone much younger than you, then you'll experience neurogenesis, improve your heart function, and reduce the stiffness of your blood vessels along with a host of other things associated with the young. I have a feeling that once we understand the blood more, we'll be able to improves our lives quite a bit. Immortality is a ways away though.

Because then you'll give everyone cancer.

WHAT FOR?

Why would anyone want life to last forever?

Human life is shit. It sucks. It hurts. No one ever wins. All that nonsense about immortality will never come true simply because it would be synonymous with "an eternity of pain, frustration and loss".

People just want to get through life as fast as possible and finally die. This is the whole point of life - to die, the sooner the better.

It will become unnecessary before we have the capability of doing it.

I would say no just based on what I know.
on the molecular level even things that appear unchanging are changing, such as a glass of water.. a ridiculously small amount of glass is dissolved in the water, so small that its safe to say that it basically doesn't happen, but given an eternity nothing will remain forever, things break down, just as someone said "Entropy" is a governing law of the universe,
The only thing I could come up with is some system that is sustained and reuses it's own decay to make new healthy cells, then that goes to well how long with the system hold up? then not even touching on energy… Immortality is to biology as : Perpetual motion machine is to mechanics.. just not possible based on what we know.

I'm sorry your life didn't go as you expected.
Meanwhile we'll be over here trying to think of ways to extend our happy times
