There are plenty of other threads on /sci/. Please direct yourself to them, unless you are picking fights just for the sake of it.

Why do so many black kids fail school? While whites, asians, and hispanics do better?

How effective do you guys think the DSM IV codes are?

Also, according to psychometric research, there are five domains of psychology.

They are: Neuroticism (sensitivity to threat and negative emotions); Extraversion (sensitivity to reward and positive emotions, often in social contexts); Agreeableness (altruism, empathy, and cooperation); Conscientiousness (orderliness, industriousness, and constraint); and Openness/Intellect (cognitive flexibility, imagination, and intelligence). Most traits reflecting individual differences in cognition, emotion, motivation, and behavior fall into one of these five domains or can be described in terms of two or more of them.

Anyone have any interesting papers on this?

Be careful, it depends on socioeconomic status. For instance, Asians with a lower socioeconomic background are at the same level of other races. It just seems that African Americans have a disproportionately lower socioeconomic status.

Hm. I'm of low socioeconomic status and I do well.

if there are any psychological scientists or people with a greater knowledge on the subject than me lurking please could you attempt to answer what the significance of exploration is with the mind why do we wish to explore some people who don't know like me for instance could say that it is because we are interested in broadening our intellect, but why does the human race want to explore when it is not beneficial to the extension of the human race or help in procreation wouldn't staying in familiar places be beneficial. If anyone has any information on the topic please post

It is in the collective interest of humans to do science because if new problems are solved then people are happier.

These are not domains of psychology but personality traits, established through factor analysis. However, they lack any theoretical background and are merely descriptive. There have been several other attempts at describing the human personality as a combination of a few more or less broad traits. The most famous models regarding this contain between 3 to 16 traits.

For more on personality traits, read up on Eysenck, Gray, Davidson, Guilford, Cattel etc...

I have a scientific background in psychology. But I don't really understand your question or how it would apply to psychology alone.

Do you mean something along the lines of "psychology is useless, so why do we put effort in research?"... If so, psychology is not useless at all. Aside from pure theoretical research, there are teaching, clinical psychology and workplace psychology which are becoming increasingly relevant.
Also there are scientific questions that can't be answered without using psychology and psychological methods.
