You're wrong on both accounts.

If you pour salt on pre-existing ice, it will stay ice. It lowers the freezing point of water, which is why you should put it down on water or the ground BEFORE it freezes.

Shale gas, methane, these are not fossil fuels but release CO2 when you burn them.

Salt does melt ice...That's why they pour it on icy roads in the winter. It doesn't do it directly. The salt dissolves in the watery layer atop the ice, which in turn melts the icy layer underneath.
