There are many theories which are compatible with other theories and observational evidence.

For example, a theory where the distance between distant galaxies expands and the average density decreases is compatible with a theory where atomic radii contract and particles get heavier. Both agree with observation.

Inductive inference would have us discover if one provides more predictive power through less work. Until we can tell, the difference is just a nice story.
