Does convergence of area imply convergence of perimeter and who cares? Why is it that maths papers rarely speculate as to how the paper can be applicable to the world whereas the sciences always do?

With science it's easier to bullshit applications.

"My investigation into butterscotch pudding texture may lead to advances in tissue engineering and cancer treatment."

"My work on rings of algebroids may lead to advances in tissue engineering and cancer treatment."

Even bureaucrats handing out government funding aren't going buy the latter.

Where have you seen this?

Science papers rarely "speculate about applications to the real world". If you do that, the reviewers will tell you to take it out because its irrelevant. Usually you talk about what important hypotheses (proposed by others) your research resolves and what testable predictions (of interest to other scientists) it makes.

Yes, and this is why pi equals 4.

It sounds like she's confusing science news articles with science papers.
