What physical chemical events, specifically, account for the accumulation of memory in brains, human or otherwise?

Obviously memory is physical, this accounts for the loss of memories in people with brain damage or people suffering from forms of amnesia.

But how is memory stored? Is it stored in a specific part of the brain, or is it stored throughout the entire brain?

We don't actually know.

the world may never know

memory doesn't really exist. You can't prove it happened. Nobody can.

You just have to trust the present is true and go with it.

It's an emergent property of neuronal networks. We don't yet know how memory is stored, but there are some theories/hypothesis out there.
